The Cutting Edge - Blog A-F

Fake Trailers

The following 4 clips are fake trailers that really bored people have cut, which have the effect of altering the original plots of the films to resemble something new.

Discussion Topic

Discuss what role editing can have in determining the plot and story of a film. For instance, if you've seen Pulp Fiction, how would that film be different if it was told in a linear fashion? Likewise, how would Run Lola Run be different if it was edited at a slow pace? How would the mood of the film change?

Editing is a powerful aspect in film. Based on how it is done, editing can alter the plot and meaning of a film. For example, Pulp Fiction is meant to be a nonlinear story resulting in out of sequence storylines. If the film was edited in a way to present the film in sequential events, it would go against Quentin Taratino's trademark of nonlinear storytelling and disappoint audience viewers who appreciate Taratino's work. Run Lola Run is meant to be suspenseful and fast-paced considering the title has "run" in it. If the film was edited in a way to make it slow-paced, the title would no longer make sense and that sense of suspense on whether or not Lola would get the money in time would no longer be effective. The audience would be confused and eventually become bored of the film's plot. With all said and done, it is not a surprise how effective and powerful editing can be and that is why it is considered one of the most important roles in film production.

Editing can change the total message of a film. One simple switch of order, addition or subtraction in the film will leave the end product totally different. If, for example, Run Lola Run, had been edited to a slower pace, the viewer would not feel the intensity of the film. However, through short clips of images and jerky motion, one is filled with anticipation. While watching that film, one feels the pressure Lola must be feeling.
In the fake trailer clips, Mary Poppins was turned into Scary Mary by re-cutting and pasting the film together, and playing a few scenes in reverse, such as when the table turned over and everything broke. Another trick used was the change of accent in certain scenes to make Mary Poppins appear dark and evil. It is very easy to change the mood of a film through editing.

Editing can change the plot and story of a film entierly. A film can end in a different way and can make you feel differently about chacters. If Pulp Fiction had been linear it might not have been as inteeresting. Rather than having to piece the sequence of events together you would have have seen everything as it happend. This would have made for a completly different film.

Editing plays an important part in the final product of a film. Just from the four examples, one can see that through editing, the actual plot of the movie is very much changed in the trailer. Editing can give the audience a very different idea of what the film is about, the pace of the film, and emotions and actions of the characters. The length of the shots and scene, and the order they are placed in can give the viewer a very different experience. Editing can also build suspense, and change where the climax and turning points of the film takes place.

The role of editing has a very strong influence in determining the plot and story of a film. Films such as The Shining, Mary Poppins, Westside Story, and Back to the Future, are very distinguished films. If people who are unfamiliar with those films viewed the edited trailers they would perceive the plot and story to be very different then they actually are. If the film Run Lola Run were to be edited at a slower pace, it would change the mood of the film by losing its sense of intensity watching Lola run at a fast pace to her destination, as well as, the repetition of her running to her destination. Editing just a small piece can change the entire ambiance of a film drastically which is why editing is so important in the film making process.

Editing can direct the film itself. Editing is just as or more important than directing. Editing has the power to tell a different story even while using the same film. I haven't seen Pulp Fiction, but if "Run Lola Run" were to be edited in a different manner and at a slower pace, you wouldn't feel the same about it once you were through watching it. Especially with the use of parallel ediitng in "Run Lola Run," it implies that so many things are happening, or running through Lola's mind, all at the same time. In turn, this leaves the audience with similar emotions the character has, and involves the audience in the plot and story of the film. We, the audience, are then as anxious as Lola to overcome the obstacles.

Editing is what the editor chooses to let the audience see. Any film or story can be told in any way, but the plot and the way in which the story is told, as well as, how the audience will react towards each scene and event of the film is due to the way in which the editing process is done, and by whom the editing is done by. With editing you can make any one event turn by any form of editing, it is all in what you want to reveal to the audience. Fore instance, in movies such as Rocky where you place a montage in a film, you cut out hours of film itself and give the audience a feeling of fast forwarding through time to show your main point, and or, to just get on with the story. Another example is the way Run Lola Run was edited; it was created in essence to show the face paced life of Lola and her love Manni. If this film would have been edited at a much slower pace it wouldn’t have reveled as much as urgency for Lola and Manni to find the money. The faster the pace of the film the more excited and into the film the audience would get. A slow pace could also confuse the audience on how much Lola really cared about Manni and on the flip side how much Manni truly cared about his own life. I believe editing can change not only the mood of a film, but also the whole comprehension completely. You can do any number of things when editing a film to change the way it is shown to an audience, but the main goal is to reveal what it is that you want to show to the audience.

The role that editing has on a film is that it can determine ones perception and establishes your opinion/interest. Each of the 4 trailers all changed the plot of the films drastically.

Shining is changed from a horror to a heartfelt sentimental type movie. The use of the backgroung music and brighter colors gave you an upbeat feeling toward the film and completely changed ones perception and mood.

Mary Poppins, changed from a children's movie to a horror with the use of harsh background music and darker color/shading.

West Side Story was changed from a love story to a sci-fi movie and the last film Back to the Future was changed from a comedy to a brokeback mountain love story.

All of these film trailers including visualizing the film Run Lola Run at a slow pace alter how you as a viewer gather an opinion and determine if you have an interest in seeing it.

I think that editing is the biggest factor in an outcome of a movie. An editor can make or break a film with his/her editing style. Quick cuts back and forth between scenes can make for a more chaotic film setting, for instance an action film. While not many dramatic cuts and slower scene change can make a film drawn out for in some cases suspense, like in a horror movie you might see a villain slowly sneaking up on a victim or it might show the villain, then show the victim then go back to the villain and there already behind the victim. I think that the start of each "scenario" of Run Lola Run was slower and more drawn out the movie would've gotten boring because that opening cut had weird cartoon animation and such. All in all I believe that editing is the most important aspect of film making because in essence, a movie is really made in the editing room, not on the set.

Editing can be used as a successful tool towards setting the mood towards a plot thus ultimately creating the story of the film. By editing pieces of a specific scene you can change the audience's perception without them even realizing it. Editing is vital in order to create a successful film. In the movie Run Lola Run if the pace were to be slowed down the mood of the film would have drastically changed and much of the audience would have most likely lost interest due to prolonged scenes. The editing of the film helped keep viewers tuned into what was next thus proving its significance towards films.

Editing is such an important aspect in the development of film. Editing, as seen, from this four clips, determines the plot and story of the film, and can easily direct the viewers perseption of the film elsewhere if the clips are not positioned correctly. The most noticable I saw, was the Mary Poppins one, where in reality is a perfect children's movie, but here in the rearranging of clips and edit changes, it is no longer a movie appropriate for children.
If Run Lola Run were edited differently, by changing the movie to slow pace, the title alone wouldn't make sense. You can tell from the very beginning of the movie that it is a face paced, action movie; Slowing down time ruins the film. It is no longer action packed; it would be a boring dramatic film of two people in love trying to survive together and end up dying. But, actually its not at all.
All in all, editing is important in determining the plot and story of the film, and if scenes aren't placed correctly in a trailer, it could change the viewers whole standpoint of that movie.

Editing plays a huge role in determining the plot and story of a film. The editing can completely determine the mood, atmosphere, and overall pace of the movie. There are many different techniques that an editor can use to determine these factors. The editor determines how to transition from scene to scene and that plays a big role in the overall feel of the movie this is so often overlooked in the movie making process. If Run Lola Run were edited at a slow pace that edgy, thrilling, and sense of urgency would all be taken away. The excitement would be drawn away from the movie as well. Editing is a big determining factor of the success or failure of a movie. If it is overlooked and not properly handled an otherwise excellent movie can turn into a really poor movie.

Role editing directly impacts the plot and story of a film. On the fake trailer of Back to the Future, we can clearly see that by cutting out certain pieces of the movie and putting them together, it's possible to alter the original concept of the film. In this case, it portrays the movie as a gay love story similar to Brokeback Mountain. Such is the case with the fake trailer or Mary Poppins, in which with the same concept of editing, they portrayed the film as a horror movie.
In Run Lola Run, while the movie is edited in a fast pace, if it was done the opposite way, it would have taken away the sense of urgency that Lola has throughout the film. Ultimately altering the mood of hurry and the feeling of suspense the story evokes.

Editing is a major factor in film making. The tone of the film is created in the editing process. For instance in run lola run, the way the film was edited made the plot intense and exhilerating as,on the other hand if the same scenes had been edited slower they could have had a completley different tone. Editing is manipulation, it controls the scenes effect on its viewers.

Editing greatly affects the plot and story of a film. If a scene is cut out of a film it can change the entire movie. It is very crucial to decide which scenes and shots are crucial to the story of a film. Unnecessary shots can bore viewers and add too much time on to the length of the film. The order in which shots are placed also affects the plot and story of a film. It changes the way viewers interpret the film and it can change the quality of the film. The mood of a film changes according to how the story is told.It is important for the editor and the director to agree on the shots added to a film so that the film turns out successful with the appropriate mood.

Editing is tied rather closely to the plot and story of a film. It determines how the audience will react and feel towards each scene. It is used to "manipulate" the audience into feeling, thinking, or believing what the editor wants them to believe. For instance in Run Lola Run its edited at a fast pace so that the audience feels the intensity of what is going on in the film. If it were to be edited at a slow pace the audience wouldn't be feel the sense of
craziness that is going on and they might find it quite boring. So the mood is effected this way as well.
During the quick running scenes in run lola run again you feel intensity but when the scene of lola being shot its edited with a slower pace therefore giving a sense of sadness.

Editing determines the plot and the story in a movie, because it decides on the sequence (order) of the shots. I have not seen Pulp Fiction yet, but in Run Lola Run, editing was key to the success of the movie. I personally think, it was one of the best movies shown in class. The pace of the movie was on point; if they had made it any slower, the movie would have been BORING (majorly!!!). Even at the pace it was, there were times when I got tired of the repetitions, go figure if it was slower. It would've been TORTURE, even though the story itself is quite interesting. That's to show you that in addition to determining the story and plot of a movie, editing also has a say in the quality of the movie.

Editing is what makes the movie make scense. If we didn't have editing you would have random clips of a movie and it would be very confusing. It also helps you determine the mood of the movie. If the movie is playing in slow motion than you get a suspense feeling (waiting to see what is going to happen).

Daniel Edwards said...

The editing process is truly what makes a story on film make sense to the audience. By using a slow editing style one would feel more drama and by using a fast editing style the preception of action is precieved. Even the order that shots are put together can change the storyline or even, if done wrong, confuse the audience. In conclusion, edititing is what draws the audience's attention and without it matching the storyline, a different idea or feeling my be given.

Editing can have a dramatic effect on the plot to a movie. It can turn a child movie into a horror film, it can change a classic adventure into a love story. If it's edited well, you can take things out of context and place them wherever you would like, and the thing is, it makes sense. No one is going to know that this particular scene doesn't belong there. The whole thing with editing something is you have the option to do whatever you want with it. For instance, you could move the order of scenes around a little or you could shorten the scene so some words get cut out. You can also take some things out of context and place them where they could be funny, scary, or serious.

Editing is one of the final decisions a filmmaker can make. It is precisely what the audience will see. There is a fine balance between what the audience needs to see (to help keep the plot line continuous) and leaving enough out for audience interpretation.

Editing in action movies, like Run Lola Run, helps control the pace and action of the movie. The way the film is edited shows the many ways that the ending could have taken place. It shows what all is going through Lola's mind (her options and decisions). In the end, the plot line is left up to the audience to decide.

I found this movie very fast moving. The audience must pay attention at all times. The sense of time, and running out of time, is portrayed well through the use of shorter shots and clips. Slow motion and fast motion used in the film helps control the pace. Split screen scenes help show what is going on in more than one place at the same time, keeping the sense of time controlled and relevant. The drama and suspense in the film may not have been as heightened or exciting if it had not been edited in this way.

Run lola run was edited perfectly. If done at a slow pace it would have defeated the purpose of the whole story in which she is running to save her boyfriend's life. Besides the fact that she's running the whole time is only one reason why it was fast paced. Another was that the film was set to take place within twenty minutes of time. Editing played an important role with the extras whose lives had different outcomes each time Lola interacted with them. As for Pulp Fiction the movie follows several characters which would have made it impossible to follow a linear fashion.

Editing is what makes or breaks a film. As a result of the editing process, a film can either be really great or really poor. If a movie is edited differently than what is originally desired by the director, there would be contrast in the plot and story. The posted examples hold true to this. If you had never seen any of those movies you would not be able to tell the difference and therefore create a false impression of the film. The “Back to the Future” trailer is a great example; because of editing, the movie picks up a totally new plot and story and neglects to illustrate the true meaning of the movie. The real movie has nothing to do with “Brokeback”. Likewise, if Run Lola Run was edited at a slow pace it would come across as very boring and audiences would likely not watch the entire movie. Because the movie is told in four different scenarios it needed to be edited in a fast moving pace in order to keep the attention of the viewers and because it would be a really long movie if it weren’t. As far as the mood of the film, it is the fast pace the gives the movie its suspense and, because of the suspense an anxious mood is created. At a slow pace it would seem like there was no rush to go anywhere or to get anything done. Also, it would not keep up with real time. With the faster pace you feel as if each scenario is being told in a realistic time period. All in all, the editing process is a very crucial component of a films success.

Editing can change the entire plot and story of a film. The editors choose what the viewers see and how they should perceive it. They have the ability to create the mood of the film by using certain shots and determining how long each one should last. If Run Lola Run was edited at a slow pace the film would be incredibly long and boring. Seeing the same situation happen three times slower would not have had the same effect. The mood of the film is fast paced and energetic. If the film was edited at a slow pace it wouldn’t make sense. The urgency of Lola needing to meet with Manni wouldn’t be there.

Editing plays a major role in determining the plot and story of the film. As shown by the clips it can change the whole entire story, for example making Mary Poppins into a horror flick. If Run Lola Run was edited at a slow place, the mood would have definitely change. There would be no urgency, and the viewers would no longer be in suspense.

Anonymous said...

Editing can effect a film strickly by creating a different mood the audience will feel towards to movie. If Pulp fiction had of been shot in a linear fashion, the movie would not have been as interesting, unique, andintense, and this can likewise be refered to Run Lola Run, where if the movie was editting slower, it would have created a different mood completely. Editting is manipulation, and by changing times and places in a movie to manipulate the film a certain reation and emotion from the audience can be created.

It is definitley very obvious that editing has a huge role in the way that a movie turns out. Without excellent editing the point and/or plot of the movie the director wants to portray may not turn out the right way. The fake trailer that really proves how incredible editing can be in my opinion is Scary Mary, or Mary Poppins. The way that the editor morphs Mary into this terrible person who is out to attack the children is absolutely amazing. The editor has drastically changed a whimsical classic into a possible horror movie, simply but cutting it into a different sequence.
When it comes to Run Lola Run, if the movie were edited at a slow pace the suspense of the movie would be drastically different. A movie such as Lola was designed to be high paced and keep you on the edge of your seat wondering if Lola will actually be able to become the heroine; and get the money to Manny in time. If the editor did this sequence more slow paced, the anticipation of her getting the money would not be high. The mood of the movie would be incredibly altered and definitley not as intense. Editing is from what I have learned the backbone of making a movie the best that it can be.

After watching the clips from the extremely bored people on You Tube, I realized just how much of an impact editing makes. I have never been as disturbed as I was watching the Mary Poppins clip and I felt that way because of the way it was edited. The creator of that clip took the time to piece together the darker portions of the film and they also sped up and slowed down parts to create and erie feeling. It is in the editing phase that the film begins to evoke character and emotion based on what the director is looking for.

The editing of film is said to be an art form truly unique to film making. In no other medium does the artist combine so many variables and elements to devise a truly unique creation. Editing is essentially the process by which you create the emotion you wish to convey on screen, by using devices such as juxtaposition, jump cuts, continuity editing/discontinuity editing. No single person, aside from the director, has as much creative control over the film's feel as the editor, for precisely the reasons mentioned above. In post production, nobody works as closely with the director in realising the director's final vision of the film as the editor, and it is said as a result they tend to develop a unique creative bond.

Pulp Fiction, as a film, I doubt would have been as well recieved were it not for it's semi-experimental style of discontinuty editing. It was far from the first film to use this style to tell the story, but in the case of that particular movie it works very well.

In Run Lola Run's case, the fast pace of the editing works to convey a sense of chaos and ugency. Our protagonist is working on a time constraint, and the editing reflects this. The repetition of the same basic plot several times with seemingly miniscule variables works to convey what I believe to be the director's views on chaos. I doubt once again the movie would have worked were it cut at a slow pace. If the characters ambled slowly through the film's 80 or so minutes it would loose all sense of urgency, along with it's style of edgyness.

Editors control the whole movie. They control fear, action, suspense, and surprise. a movie can change depending on the editors. They can slow a movie up or speed it up. Any movie or scene can get a completely different feel depending on editing. one scene can be scarier pr happier. depending on the type of editing.

After learning about cutting and editing I think that you could twist nearly any film and make it transition different genres by the cuts and music. If Run Lola run's scenes were longer and the music was slower and not that pyschodelic trance track they played, then it could have made it a very phylosophical movie about what is meant to be or not, instead of a fast paced, serious yet funny yet sort of action movie. Editing even as much as a couple seconds can completely change the outcome of the trailer, movie or just scene in general.

George Brooks said...

The correct type of editing a director uses in a movie is crucial when trying to accurately portray the specific plot/story of any film. Take the fake trailers for example, as shown in the Marry Poppins trailer, with the wrong editing you could very easily be advertising to a whole different audience that enjoys horror films by simply only using the shots in the film that have children screaming or her looking out the window like shown, when in fact that movie is meant to be a family movie with no premise of horror whatsoever. If Run Lola Run was edited at a slow pace the audience wouldn't feel the franticness, the immense importance of time and how every action has a reaction that inevitably changes the outcome. It was said in Margit Sinka's review that the film was "sheer fun to watch" and that was partially due to it's editing in keeping everything movie at a fast pace, keeping the audience on the edge of their seat as well as making their hearts beat a little faster as they feel the pressure of time, the every minute that passes brings them closer to, what the audience would like - a romantic uniting of the 2, unless of course they don't beat the clock. A poorly edited movie can turn the best plot/story into an utter disaster

Anonymous said...

In a fast pace movie like Run Lola Run it allows you to be there right with the protagonist becuase we Vicariously through the character...if the pace of the movie would to slow down we would not be able to relate to her situation therefore, we may loose intrest in the situation and the movie. slowing down the movie would not cause more drama it would just more the veiwer.

Valerie Baker said...

Editing alone can completely change the plot and film of the story. For instance in the Mary Poppins clip the upbeat childrens Disney movie was turned into a horror trailer making Mary Poppins appear to be scary. Instead of showing that the children love her, it wrongly shows them running away from her scared. Also if Run Lola Run was edited at a slow pace it wouldn't match the title of run. If it were slow it wouldn't seem like Lola was in a hurry and under pressure. If she were walking it wouldn't do the film justice.

Editing can alter the meaning and purpose of the plot and story of a film. In the trailer of the shining, you would think that it's a family fun filled movie but if youve seen the movie you know its a scary horror movie. If Run Lola Run was edited at a slower pace then it would take away from the effect that Lola only has 20 min to complete a task and is rushing to do so. therefore, the mood would change from being a fast pace adrenaline rush to a slow pace film.

Anonymous said...

Editing is quite possibly the most important part of the film making process. No matter how good the acting and story is, the editing is what the viewers see. This is no more evident than in Pulp Fiction where they start out at the end and then slowly tell the whole story back in pieces. If it were edited any other way it wouldnt be the film that it is in the fact that it would be any other bank robbery film. Also the way Run Lola Run is edited is fast paced and makes the film different than any other German film (or American for that matter) and if it were slowly paced the film would dragg out and loose interest in the viewer.

Anonymous said...

It changes the theme and excitement of the movie for instance if an action movie had a slow trailer then the movie would be slow itself. Plus the trailer is a teaser and shows you most of the best parts. If they showed you the bad parts it could be a good movie but people wouldnt want to see if. Like the trailer for kingdom you see them sitting in a car and it flashes black and then back to them for a couple of seconds and then you see a grenade fall on there car. It builds suspense and sets up the movie for action.

Run Lola Run was edited at a fast pace rather than a slow pace because, the movie would of completely changed and probably wouldn’t have be as enjoyable as it was.
One of the things I enjoyed most about the movie was that the editing was fast pace. If the film was edited at a slow pace the plot and story would have been too drawn out and the viewer would have lost interest. Also due to the fast pace the viewer feels the same urgency the characters did, where as if it was edited at a slow pace the viewer would feel disconnected from the plot and story. Another point is the overall mood of the film would have changed dramatically as well. Like I already stated the fast pace, really stressed the importance and urgency of the time period Lola was experiencing. If it was edited at a slow pace the whole mood would change and the film would not have been as dramatic as it was.
So overall, Run Lola Run, is a prime example of how editing is a key point in making a film successful. If the film had been edited differently the plot and story the director was trying to portray would be completely different.

The editing process is crucial in determining the plot of a film. The editing process actually puts the film together in chronological order. If the scenes are not in the correct order, then the story will not make sense. In Pulp Fiction the story starts at the end and then works its way around to the beginning. In other words, the story goes backwards. In Run Lola Run, if the scenes were slowed down, the same effect would not take place and there would be a different mood portrayed. The mood in Run Lola Run is that she is being rushed, so all of the scenes are very fast.

The Sequence of editing a movie is very important because it portrays how the director wants the movie to be seen and understood. The sequence of cuts and transitions can add suspense or give a film completely new meaning. For instance if a film was in chronological order you would not be able to have any flash backs and such it would just be a straight dry movie. The editing is what makes a good movie. Also editing can change the pace of a movie. But having flash backs and scenes that dont mix such as pulp fiction and the prestige it slows down the plot, making the movie seem longer and getting you more into the plot. Like when a movie starts off with the ending and you have to trace back to see actually what happened. On contrare the editing can make a movie move faster, making it easy for viewers to comprehend rather than trying to decipher what is going on in a movie

Role editing can cause a character to have a compltely different impression than what was orginially intended. If you take a scene and intermix other scenes it can completely throw off whoever is watching the movie to believe something different is happening. For example, the Mary Poppins clip above gives the impression that she is a frightening nanny that comes into town and turns everything upsidedown when in fact she is a nice lady that comes to help. It just appears this way because of the editing.

Andrew Flinn said...

The role of editing in film helps to build the supsense of a movie. It allows the movie to have suspenseful scenes that do not actually happen chronologically which can help to entertain the viewer and keep him/her on their toes. Editing also adds a new dimension to the film that just shooting a film from beginning to end like a normal film cannot do.

Editing is what creates a film. As shown in the four trailers posted, any movie can be made to look scary, funny, happy or sad. Editing is an art of deception. The editor can make or break the film. If pulp fiction had been filmed in a linear fashion it is likely that the film would have turned out boring and predictable. The surprise element of some scenes would also be lost completely. Similarly, if Run Lola Run was filmed at a regular pace, the audience would not have the rush of adrenaline that Lola is experiencing. The story would most likely bore the audience if it were at a slow pace. A lot of the scenes that are often repeated in the film are only tolerable because it is rushed through. If it was edited at a slower pace, the audience would probably get frustrated at seeing the same scene over and over again because it would seem to never end. With out the rushed actions the film would become too repetitive. The editing of the film creates the sense of urgency. This is what keeps the audience on the edge of their seat.

Editing plays a crucial role in determining the plot and story of a film. As seen in the 4 clips, a scary movie can be viewed as a touching family movie, a comedy can be portrayed as a horror flick, and so on. If Run Lola Run has be edited at a slow pace the film wouldn't be as intense. The audience might even loose interest. It is very important that a film is edited in such a way that portrays the director's vision and also captured the audience.

Jason Harvin said...

The process of editing, especially the process of editing trailers, can alter the film’s plot and story line in so many ways. For example, the movie clip pictured Mary Poppins as a ruthless child slayer. In all reality the editor has the ultimate decision on how he wants to depict the movie (if not under the authority of the studio, director, etc.). An editor must cut films to portray what the director’s ultimate vision. As for trailers, they must be able to entice interest in the viewer without giving too much of the movie away.

In Run, Lola Run if the editor would have cut the film slow the mood wouldn’t have been as intense. The fast paced house & techno music used throughout the film would have to be changed because it just wouldn’t fit the setting. I believe if the film was cut slower the viewer wouldn’t have that feeling of intensity while Lola is running to save Manni because the mood would have been one of distress instead of eagerness, urgently waiting and wondering if Manni would be fine.

I think that the second trailer is the most effective trailer. The trailer is supposed to scare and shock people, and this clip does that very effectively. With the sharp transitions from clip to clip it suprises the viewer and startles them. The Into and end are also very eerie which adds to the mood of the trailer. Overall I think that this trailer captures the feel of the movie very well and makes the vewer interested by scaring them a bit. Getting the viewer interested is the purpose of trailers.

Editing has total control over the plot of a film. It determines the mood and feeling of the film. If Run Lola Run was edited at a slower pace, the whole mood of the movie would have changed. The viewers would not be able to connect with the plot nor the film because the movie was created around a twenty minute timeframe. Twenty minutes have to happen fast, otherwise the movie would not make sense and the viewers would not enjoy watching it. As we saw in "The Cutting Edge," movies are edited to fit together perfectly. All of the scenes are stitched together at the perfect shot in order for the film to make sense. The fake trailer were great examples that showed how some movies were edited together with other movies to create a new movie, which proves that editing can change a mood and even the plot or idea of a film.

Editing is definately one of the most important aspects of a film. If Run Lola Run was edited in a different manner, at a slower pace, the outcome would definately not have been as affective as it is now. You would not be able to percieve the parallel timing of it all, it would be more confusing and the movie itself is obviously a very fast pace movie. If it was slow paced it would definately be a lot more boring and not as obvious that everything is happening at the same time. So obviously editing is such a key part in making an effective movie.

Well when I see a slow pace in role editing i am hit with an eerie feeling like something is goin 2 all of a sudden happen and that there is mysteries and questions to be answered, like in the movie "se7en" with morgan freeman as the detective before he would uncover something there would be a long pause in the action.

Editing is extremely important in film because it can completely alter the message of a film. For instance, the clip of Mary Poppins was edited in a way that made the movie look scary, as if Mary Poppins was an evil character. This clearly is inaccurate. Run Lola Run was meant to be a nonlinear, fast paced movie. Had it been edited in a linear way with slow paced scenes the total effect of the movie would be changed and it would no longer make sense. Furthermore, the trailer of the Shining illustrated the importance of editing. The Shining is a scary movie and it was edited to look like a heart warming film about a father and son's relationship. Clearly, editing can make or break the message of a film.
